THEN vs NOW, HERE vs THERE

I am really enjoying the school I am now at. I am teaching the same kind of kids. I am still teaching the at-risk student. These students are just in a better situation. These students are given more opportunities to succeed. The difference is these kids are cared about. The school, faculty, and parents take a great interest in the student’s education. Parents are more involved and the special education teachers are always asking questions about my class and are involved. Last year the special education teacher was not very involved. I think, the SPED teacher from last year did not believe that these at-risk students can learn. Here at my new school the teachers tell the students everyday that they can learn and succeed in life, and that they help boost their academic and personal self-esteem. In fact, one of the SPED teachers told me that it takes her about nine weeks to rebuild the children who have been torn down all their lives. The SPED teachers also take the students on trips to different colleges!! Last year I was lucky if I could get a SPED student to write their name on a piece of paper. But this year these students are doing great they are involved in the lessons and they ask question, they take notes everyday. They try their best on test. I love teaching these kids. I love that they care about their education. The difference is that the teachers and administrators have more parental support. Because they have more support they care; they do not feel as if they are fighting a losing battle. They have HOPE!!!!!! I was only at Greenwood for one year, and I felt as if I was fighting a losing battle. This year I have HOPE!! Although I like it here, I want to take the things that I have learned back to the delta. I would like to bring HOPE back.
